Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: 'I want to keep David Luiz in defence'

Antonio Conte considers N'Golo Kante replacements as Chelsea star a doubt for Manchester United

N'Golo Kante is a major doubt to be fit for Chelsea's clash with Manchester United next month after Antonio Conte revealed that the midfielder will take around 25 days to recover from his hamstring injury.

The Spaniard limped out of Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to City at Stamford Bridge and subsequently missed the global break with Spain.

"With Kante we are going to do a scan next week to check his situation and if it is improving". But for sure it's a hamstring problem and this is a big loss for us.

"As you know, we have three injured players", said Conte.

"It will be very hard play Fabregas and Bakayoko for seven games in a row and we must hope we don't get any more injuries during this time".

They face second-placed Manchester United on November 5, and with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas the only specialist central midfielders available, Conte might have to turn to his defenders or younger players to step in for Kante.

Injuries mean that Chelsea are also without the likes of Danny Drinkwater, who joined in the summer from Leicester.

"I don't want to change a lot but if there is the necessity I am ready to do this, but also to give an opportunity to young players like Ampadu or Scott". "For me David is one of the best central defenders".

"For sure we're not lucky in this period".

"If I can, I prefer not to change a lot. We have seven games in one month and we have to find different solutions, to adapt defenders in midfield". "When I chose to use him in the midfielder against Tottenham, it could be an option if I play with three midfielders".

Alvaro Morata is ruled out for the trip to Palace after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat to Manchester City just before the worldwide break.

Morata didn't play for Spain over the last fortnight, but Conte hopes he will return to face Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
