Three Upstate NY breweries win medals at prestigious Great American Beer Fest

Uberbrew's Canü won the silver medal in the American-Style Cream Ale category. For San Antonio proper, the coup de grâce was a gold medal for Freetail Brewing Company for its 2014 iteration of their Imperial Stout La Muerta, in the Aged Beer category, making it the Alamo City's first GABF medal.

Instead of them, beer makers like Ironworks Brewery & Pub of Lakewood, CO-Brew of Denver and Square Peg Brewerks of Alamosa, which opened earlier this year, ascended to the stage in the Colorado Convention Center to receive medals signifying they had made one of the three best beers in America in 98 different style categories or in the Pro-Am competition.

Owner of Lewis & Clark Brewing Company Max Pigman said "It's an honor to be recognized within such a large group of great craft brewers, we are very lucky to have a dedicated brewing staff lead by industry veteran Sean Tobin, that continues to produce award-winning beers day-in and day-out". After coming in third in the overall medal count this year - behind only Colorado and California - Texas clearly proved that it's every bit as good as the rest of the country and should now command the respect that we have long deserved.

Cannonball Creek Brewing of Golden won a medal for the fifth year in a row - all of the years the brewery has existed.

This year's award haul brings the total number of GABF medals for Saint Arnold to 24, the most of any brewery in Texas.

Saint Arnold took home the gold medal for Pumpkinator in the Pumpkin/Squash or Pumpkin Spice Beer category, a first at this competition for this brew.

The event is the largest beer festival in the world. See the full list of winners here.
