The pledge came a week before President Donald Trump announces final decision on how he wants to contain Tehran.

White House Press Secretary Huckabee Sanders said on Friday Trump will announce new United States responses to Iran's missile tests, alleged support for terrorism and cyber operations as part of his bellicose Iran strategy.

"Whatever they do we will take reciprocal measures".

"But if it does so, then Iran's response will be firm, decisive and crushing and the USA should accept the consequences".

"We are hopeful that the United States does not make this strategic mistake", said Bahram Qasemi, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, as reported by Reuters.

Trump is also expected to designate Iran's most powerful security force, the Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, as he rolls out a broader U.S. strategy on Iran.

The IRGC commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari noted on Sunday that 'Implementation of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) is tantamount to U.S. unilateral walking away from Iran nuclear deal'.

The chief of the Iran Revolutionary Guards has reportedly vowed to equate the US Army with Daesh if the US puts them on the terror group list.

He is expected to "decertify" on Oct 15 a landmark 2015 deal to curb Iran's nuclear programme and is also expected to designate Iran's most powerful security force, the Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), as a terrorist organisation.

The foreign ministry spokesman also spoke about the recent conviction of one of Iran's nuclear negotiators, Abdolrasoul Dorri Esfahani on charges of espionage.

"The Islamic Republic intends to resolve the regional issues at a place other than the negotiating table". He said the European signatories to the JCPOA-a reference to France, the United Kingdom, and Germany-all insist that the US not walk away from the deal negotiated two years ago by the Obama administration.

The deal emerged after about two years of negotiations under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama to roll back Tehran's nuclear program in return for the removal of worldwide sanctions. "We have all options on the table", he added.
