2 Air Force Commandos Killed During Encounter In Kashmir's Bandipora

The militants were killed overnight in the Shopian district in clashes that erupted after insurgents fired on security forces from a house, Senior Police Officer Shesh Paul Vaid said.

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) commandos training with the Army were killed in a fierce encounter with terrorists in Kashmir's Bandipora early this morning. "They were operating with the Army for operational experience and training", he said, adding, "Two terrorists were also gunned down and their weapons recovered". But during this time two military personnel martyred and four others were injured. Two terrorists have been shot dead. An Army jawan had also died in the brief encounter with militants in the Budgam district of the state on Monday.

According to reports, mobile internet service was suspended to maintain law and order situation following the encounter. Both belonged to LeT outfit, police said.

"He was killed in a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operation Group, local police, the CRPF and the Army", he had said.

Hajin, once known as the hub of pro-government militia, Ikhwan, that broke the back of militancy in the late 1990s, is now seen as the most sensitive area.

From past two weeks, forces have launched several operations in and around Hajin town.

Officials told Rising Kashmir that two soldiers were killed early today when suspected militants attacked the forces when they were launching the Cordon and Search operation in Paribal Rakhi Hajin.
