According to ESPN 1000 in NY, that will not be the case as the team will move on from Girardi and let him walk rather than re-sign him. The Yankees beat the odds all year until falling in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series to the Houston Astros.

As Yankees manager in the past 10 seasons, Girardi's teams reached the playoffs six times and won one World Series.

Girardi, 53, just completed his tenth season as Yankees manager.

"With a heavy heart, I come to you because the Yankees have decided not to bring me back", Girardi said in a statement, according to WFAN's Sweeny Murti. From 2012-2017, the Yankees failed to make the Divisional Round (missing the playoffs three times and losing the Wild Card Game once). The New York Post reported Wednesday that Girardi was set to meet with general manager Brian Cashman Thursday to discuss his future with the organization.

The Yankees first managerial search since the end of the 2007 season will now begin.

They are said to "love" the job he's doing. The Yankees stormed back to win the final three games of the series and then almost came back from a 2-0 deficit against the Astros in the ALCS. The team went 910-710 (.562) under his watch and never finished a season with fewer than 84 wins despite having some lean rosters from 2013-16.

Girardi also thanked his coaches, players and others.

Girardi leaves NY with a record of 910-710.
