'Mersal' controversy: Actor Vijay breaks silence, thank fans for support

Interestingly, in his message, for the first time, the actor used his full Christian name, C. Joseph Vijay, according to a report.

After days of silence, finally Vijay spoke on Wednesday to thank all those who supported the "controversial" film.

Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu aka Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen starrer Adirindhi, the Telugu version of Tamil film Mersal, which was supposed to hit the theaters on 18th October along the original Tamil version, but unfortunately the film release was postponed due to delay in censor formalities. "In view of this, police should register a case against the director, actors Vijay and Vadivelu and the producers Thenandal Films for hurting the sentiments of Hindus", the students said. But, the film got succeded by leaving the controversies behind as it is the 2017s biggest hit.

"I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who had made 'Mersal' a grand success and for supporting (it)", he said.

Earlier this week, BJP National Secretary H. Raja even raked up actor Vijay's Christian origins. The movie, in spite of facing the risk of being banned, has become a box office hit.

"Joseph Vijay's hatred for Modi is Mersal", he wrote, adding a communal flavour to the row. Baahubali: The Conclusion is the only movie that overtook Rajnikanth's Enthiran but looking at Mersal's collection, it is going to set new standards for the film industry.

On a related note, the film features Vijay in triple role and is directed by Atlee Kumar.

Superstar Rajinikanth had said on Twitter that the film addressed an important issue.
