Michigan Mom Spends Week in Jail for Not Immunizing Son

A Michigan judge has reduced the child custody rights of a woman after being found in cotempt of court and jailed for five days

A MI mother who was jailed after refusing to vaccinate her 9-year-old son said she would "do it all over again", even though it led to her spending five days behind bars and losing primary custody of her child.

Rebecca Bredow, the MI anti-vax mother who was jailed because she refused to let her son receive vaccinations, was not happy to learn that her son received four immunizations this week. The mother said vaccinations go against her religious beliefs. "It's been a rough few days to say the least". "Your attorney signed that order", she added at the time of sentencing.

Bredow was found in contempt of court last week and sent to jail for five days.

A Friend of the Court referee, after reviewing the custody battle case, recommended that both parents, Bredow and Horne, get joint custody of their son. The boy was temporarily placed in the custody of his father James Horne, who made sure he was vaccinated.

When asked if the experience of going to jail was worth it in the end, especially given the outcome, the mother-of-two said she still stands by her anti-vaxx stance.

Her crime? Not obeying a court order to vaccinate her child. She told the Press that being in jail was "horrific" but "I still stand by my choices because I stand up for what I believe in".

"You have seven days to get your child vaccinated", McDonald said on September 27.

7 Action News said Bredow and her ex-husband had agreed to vaccinate the child, but her views had since changed. In the intervening time, Bredow had physical custody, while Horne took charge of the boy on alternate weekends.

"It's clear to me that you don't care about orders even if you agree to them, which you did".
