Earlier, when Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for three-match T20 series, everyone was surprised to see Indian pacer Ashish Nehra's name on the list.

The 38-year-old pacer, who made his global debut in December 1999 against Sri Lanka, was picked for Friday's third T20I match against Australia.

Veteran speedster Ashish Nehra has chose to retire from all forms of cricket and will play his last competetive match against New Zealand in the first T20 worldwide against New Zealand at his home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla, on November 1. "Now I think it is the right time and they've welcomed my decision", he said.

"If I have decided something, there is no going back".

Ashish Nehra plans to retire from worldwide cricket following a Twenty20 match between India against New Zealand next month, media reports have said. Nehra's also said to have taken the call while keeping in mind that young and effective pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar deserve to play more number of matches. "Nehra has requested for one last match at his home ground and wants to go out on a high", the official had said.

Nehra has so far played 17 Tests (44 wickets), 120 One-Day Internationals (157 wickets) and 26 T20Is (34 wickets) for the country. He is set to play his last match on his home ground - Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.

The Delhi-native has collected 44, 157 and 34 wickets in Test, ODI and T20I cricket in his 18-year worldwide career.

Nehra was recently picked for the three-match T20 global series against Australia but he wasn't picked for the first two matches.

The left-arm seamer is also likely to quit from Indian Premier League (IPL). He missed the final due to a finger fracture. This year he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). "But I am just trying my level best", Nehra was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo after he was selected for the Australia series.
