After giving fans their first full look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi with a fantastic teaser trailer back in April, the first full trailer has debuted online during ESPN's Monday Night Football. The movie picks up where its predecessor left off, The Force Awakens was released in December 2015.

Despite the mysterious title, director Rian Johnson confirmed in September that the last Jedi is exactly who fans thought: Luke Skywalker. I didn't fear it enough then. It also features a lightsaber-wielding Daisy Ridley, as well as John Boyega and Mark Hamill. We've got Finn looking to win the award for best ideal shot of the year when a very pissed off Captain Phasma tangles with him, Luke's (probably initial) refusal to train Rey and Kylo Ren looking set to do the unthinkable.

Rey reaches out for Kylo's hand after saying she needs some guidance: "I need someone to show me my new place", which leads to a new level of suspense. At the end of The Force Awakens movie, Rey has finally meets up Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas around the world on December 15, with tickets now widely on sale in both the United Kingdom and US. Though she was expected to appear in Episode IX, Lucasfilm said there are no plans to digitally recreate Fisher in any upcoming Star Wars projects.

Other actors including Carrie Fisher (late), Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels and Gwendoline Christie also return with their respective characters.
