Tesla Recalls Model X SUV for Second-Row Seat Issue

Tesla is recalling 11000 SUVs because its seats could fail in a crash

The number of Model X vehicles being recalled was estimated at 11,000, with only a small percentage expected to have the seat cable problem.

The company, which is led by Elon Musk, said about 3 percent of the recalled vehicles may have the issue, which was detected during internal testing.

The issue was discovered through internal testing, the spokesperson said. If it's not properly locked, it could move forward during a crash.

We are emailing to inform you of a proactive action Tesla is taking to ensure your safety as a Model X owner. Tesla says it can correct the issue in about 10 minutes with its mobile service operators.

This is the second time Tesla has issued a recall for its Model X SUVs due to problems with the seats' latch. There haven't been any reports of seat issues in the field.

Tesla said some cables in the seat may have been improperly tightened, which prevents the left seat from locking in an upright position. The automaker said the affected part could lead to the seats falling forward as a result of an accident. Until then, the company suggests not stacking two adults in the center and behind-driver seats in the second row.

Tesla last week also announced that it increased production of Model S and Model X vehicles to an all-time best quarter of 26,150 vehicles, and anticipated it would deliver 100,000 of the luxury models in 2017 - a third more than in 2016.
