As the Texas Tech Police Department works to piece together what happened during a drug arrest that ended with campus police officer Floyd East, Jr., shot to death, more information is becoming available about the suspected shooter.

The officers found drug paraphernalia in the room, and when Daniels arrived, arrested him, and took him to the university police station, Bonath said.

During the search, Bonath said, the university counseling center told police that Daniels' family had "called to express concerns that the student might be in possession of a weapon and making comments about suicide".

A special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team was sent to look for the suspect, Lubbock police officer J. Rodgers said by phone.

In 2016, Texas Tech police arrested him for possession of marijuana.

Neighbors had nice things to say about the Daniels family, but it's clear to many that something went terribly wrong. He was in Lubbock County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $5 million.

Daniels was recaptured a little more than an hour later.

Two officers were originally dispatched to Daniels' campus dorm suite inside Talkington Residence Hall late Monday afternoon after his mother called the university hotline fearing her son was a danger to himself, university spokesman Chris Cook told ABC News. The party's statement said that only law enforcement officials should be able to have firearms on campus, and "sensible gun laws can do something about America's shameful gun violence".

Daniels then led officers on a pursuit across campus, according to Bonath. Daniels is then accused of fatally shooting an officer and taking off.

One student left bag of sympathy cards in the middle of memorial circle asking students to write something to Officer East's family. Hollis Daniels was no longer in the room, A.45 caliber shall casing was located near Officer XXXX, Corporal Snelson also advised Officer XXXX's police body camera was missing and Officer XXXX's pistol was In his holster.

Detective Daniel Williams and I interviewed Hollis Daniels, Hollis Daniels immediately stated he "f****d up".

Texas is one of 10 states to allow students to carry concealed weapons on campus but Daniels, 19, illegally did so.
