She's Gotta Have It debuts on Netflix on 23 November. The film signaled a change of how African Americans are portrayed in movies.

Starring newcomer DeWanda Wise as the sassy Nola Darling, the rebooted She's Gotta Have It is set in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Fort Greene, a community bursting with creativity but also under threat of losing its identity thanks to ongoing gentrification.

31 years later, Lee is reviving his seminal film as a Netflix series, but this time Darling (played by DeWanda Wise) seems even more empowered. "As a sex-positive, polyamorous pansexual", Nola begins, "monogamy never even seemed like a remote possibility". For starters, she's not anyone's property. While this doesn't seem to indicate that Lee will be fully exploring the promise of pansexuality, there is always the possibility of a season two. Also featured are Nola's therapist played by Heather Headley and her friends: Clorinda Bradford played by Margot Bingham ("Barbershop 3"), Shemekka Epps played by Chyna Layne ("Precious"), and Rachel played by Elise Hudson. I know what you're thinking: "She's loose", but she's just out here living her best life and doing what makes her happy.

The only thing that doesn't look better in 2017?
