“You can’t question our character” – Jack Wilshere hits back at Troy Deeney

Deeney is not backward in coming forward with his views as Arsenal supporters will attest.

Watford star Troy Deeney has made a bold claim about Newcastle United's home ground St James' Park.

And despite slipping down the ranks in terms of capacity over the last decade with Premier League clubs moving to new grounds, Deeney says nothing beats St James' Park. We need to look inside and not outside, to respect ourselves as well and do our job. "We have a game tomorrow and another big game at the weekend and we have seen with this team that the players can bounce back quick - and we will do that", he explained.

The Hornets came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory through a stoppage-time goal from Tom Cleverley which saw them climb to fourth in the Premier League table.

"Arsene Wenger said he was hurt by Deeney's comments and they will become the elephant in the room if they are not addressed". You can't question our character. "Has he listened? We will see".

But Wenger begged to differ, telling journalists at a press conference yesterday to preview today's Europa League clash against Red Star Belgrade that Deeney's comments "aren't justified".

"People try and put us down, they always have". I think it is fair we are having these conversations because we did really well in our opening eight games.

"Not because he spoke about one thing or the other, he helps our dressing room in the way I want, and with what we need to do in our work". The 25-year-old said there will be a few who will be disappointed at Deeney's comments, but admitted that it is part of the modern game, where they are judged on each performance.
