Arsenal legend Adams: Wilshere must stay. He's more important than Ozil

Wilshere snubbed them in favour of a season-long stint at Bournemouth.

The Daily Mirror says that Wilshere fears his chances of playing in next year's World Cup are diminishing with every week he remains on the Arsenal bench.

"I have got no idea about where the name of Jack Wilshere has come from, so where did you get it from?"

Home-grown Adams feels that was an important part of the Arsenal side that famously won the league in 1989, with the likes of David Rocastle, Michael Thomas, Paul Davis, Niall Quinn and Paul Merson all also having emerged from the club's youth team.

However, Hodgson has now firmly rebuffed that speculation, suggesting that it is merely agent-driven and that Wilshere, who is out of contract at the end of the season, had not been identified as a potential New Year transfer target during discussions with sporting director Dougie Freedman.

Hodgson said: "We have never mentioned his name". Jack Wilshere's name has never been mentioned.

Wilshere is back to full fitness at Arsenal for the first time in a long time.

The midfielder made his global debut back in 2010 but injuries have reduced him to just 34 caps. And while he admits he could be interested in his signature in the future, now is evidently not that time. When I speak to him, he's had very positive experiences. That's what you need to find out, because it didn't come from us.

"Players that are coming in, he's already talked about players playing out of position at their clubs and fitting into this team, Jack Wilshere was one of those".
