Braves set to tab Alex Anthopoulos as next GM

Braves set to tab Alex Anthopoulos as next GM

The Atlanta Braves reportedly have their new general manager.

Anthopoulos, 40, had been the Dodgers' vice president of baseball operations, a position he held since he left the Blue Jays after the 2015 season.

While with Toronto, Anthopoulos had a reputation for being aggressive with trades.

Hart will be getting what's being termed as a "soft landing" in the wake of the investigation which cost GM John Coppolella and high-ranking scout Gordon Blakely their jobs.

Alex Anthopoulos will be calling the shots for an Major League Baseball team once again.

Anthopoulos was the Braves' second choice for the job with Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore being their favourite, Sherman writes.

Even after the Braves were denied permission to speak to Moore in late October, there was still lingering hope that permission would eventually be granted.

Anthopoulos is expected to be introduced as general manager on Monday, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the hiring has yet to be announced. He pulled off deals for the likes of Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and David Price.

Anthopoulos, a native of Canada, served as the Blue Jays GM from 2010-2015, after joining the organization in 2003. If he is removed from his current role, the Braves would not necessarily have to name somebody president of baseball operations; the GM hired could handle the responsibilities of the role. Anthopoulos is expected to have final say in baseball matters.

The results of the investigation will determine Hart's future.
