Watch: Devils' Brian Boyle Scores First Goal Since Returning From Cancer

The Devils came out flying in the opening half of the first period, holding the Oilers without a shot and putting pressure on goaltender Cam Talbot.

Cory Schneider allowed three goals on 32 shots in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Boyle said he was feeling relatively unaffected by the disease upon diagnosis and that it would be treatable with medication, but he wasn't able to make his Devils debut until almost a month into the season. "There's still things we need to clean up, but right now it's about getting points and getting our game back in the right direction", Draisaitl said.

Milan Lucic had a goal and an assist and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins recorded a pair of assists for the Oilers (6-8-1) while Brian Boyle and Drew Stafford scored for the Devils (9-4-2), who have lost four straight. You can see Boyle rejoicing in the replay, and in an interview after the period ended, he said that he cried when he scored.

Boyle opened the scoring as he jammed a loose puck through Talbot, his one-time teammate with the Rangers, to give the Devils a 1-0 lead just 5:33 in.

However, the Devils answered right back, regaining their one-goal advantage before the second intermission.

Anton Slepyshev, back in the Oilers lineup after missing two games with an injury, tied it 6:50 into the second period. To make room for Palmieri on the roster, the Devils placed LW Marcus Johansson (concussion) on injured reserve.
