DC Fires Eddie Berganza

"Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have terminated the employment of DC Comics Group Editor Eddie Berganza".

"We are committed to eradicating harassment", DC Comics said in a statement, "and ensuring that all employees, as well as our freelance community, are aware of our policies, are comfortable reporting any concerns and feel supported by our company". And like the comedian, the cultural shock wave launched by the Harvey Weinstein scandal has rocked his career.

Berganza had been with DC Comics since 1992, editing numerous publisher's highest-profile comics, including the current Dark Nights: Metal event. The article alleged that Berganza had been engaging in the behavior for years but rose through the comic book publisher's ranks despite his alleged actions. Cartoonist Joan Hilty also said Berganza kissed and groped her at the same bar in the early 2000s.

Liz Gehrlein Marsham, who had only been working at the company for less than three weeks, claims Berganza aggressively kissed her in December 2006 at a bar.

In total, five sources told Buzzfeed that they reported Berganza's behavior to superiors working at DC Comics, though it appeared that nothing come of the complaints.

Marsham says that when Berganza began overseeing books she was editing, she withdrew from the editing process altogether to avoid him - with no intervention from her supervisors. Berganza, who was up for a promotion to executive editor at the time, received that promotion anyway. "There will be a prompt and yet careful review into next steps as it relates to the allegations against him, and the concerns our talent, employees and fans have shared". It was announced by Buzzfeed that Eddie Berganza has been fired in the wake of the allegations becoming public. A DC spokesperson told BuzzFeed that "DC and WB are unequivocally committed to cultivating a work environment of dignity and respect, one that is safe and harassment free for all employees", but did not comment on the specific allegations against Berganza. But for many, many comic book creators and fans, that wasn't almost enough.

The women who made complaints against Berganza seven years ago have all sense moved on from the company.
