Four types of trainings were outlined in the blog post: Those for people looking for work, for entrepreneurs, for SMB owners, and for people new to the internet.

Called Facebook Community Boost, the program will provide programming targeted to different audiences to better equip them to compete in an increasingly digital economy.

Internet newcomers will be able to gain knowledge on online safety and general digital literacy, getting additional information on how they can stay connected to their communities on Facebook using event and group features.

To this end, Facebook's CEO is announcing a program to boost small businesses and give people technical skills on and off Facebook.

Facebook will work with local organizations to administer the training sessions in cities including Houston, St. Louis, and Des Moines.

80% of USA small and medium businesses on Facebook say the platform helps them connect to people in their local community. It will provide social media training to jobseekers, help entrepreneurs use technology to implement their ideas and show business owners how concepts like the cloud and IoT can unlock new opportunities.

Forty-six percent of small businesses on the platform in SC said Facebook is an essential tool for running their business, the press release said.

The program seeks to help businesses expand their digital footprints and find new customers, as well as provide digital training for job seekers, entrepreneurs and community leaders.

"I'm glad that Facebook recognized that one of the first five cities to benefit from this program should be Houston", Turner said.

People looking for work will get training to boost in-demand digital and social media skills. So far, the company has been vague about what other skills will be taught, and whether they will include and programs that Facebook does not already own.

"We are excited that Greenville will be one of the first cities to host Facebook's Community Boost event".

Facebook is promoting itself to small-scale local businesses by providing them free pages and services to manage their digital and social media skills in hopes of turning them into paid advertisers. "Facebook has been a great partner in Iowa, and my administration looks forward to working with them on this wonderful project".
