Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has announced that he will retire at the end of the season

"What is happening now is normal", Drogba said during an interview with French broadcaster RMC Sport.

And Antonio Conte's future has been the subject of plenty of speculation this year with his team well of the pace of Premier League leaders Manchester City. "There comes a time when you have to stop". I need to have time for my other projects.

Drogba has been playing for Phoenix since the turn of the year, where he has scored 10 times in his 14 appearances. "It's good to play, but at 39, it holds me back a bit". Fittingly, that will be exactly 20 years after he made his professional debut for Le Mans.

He's best known for his spells at Chelsea.

Drogba, the Ivory Coast's record goalscorer, had two spells with Chelsea, the first spanning eight years and culminating with victory in the 2012 Champions League final.

The Ivory Coast superstar - who now plays for USL side Phoenix Rising - announced his decision to RMC Sport today, saying: "Ah, do you want a scoop?"

Away from the Premier League Didier Drogba also lifted the Super Lig title with Galatasaray in 2013, while he also spent time in China before moving to MLS with Montreal Impact.

If he's anywhere near as successful an owner as he has been a footballer, then his current club can look forward to exciting times.
