Wikileaks asked Donald Trump get his father to nudge Australia to nominate Julian Assange as U.S. ambassador.

On Oct. 12, WikiLeaks wrote Trump Jr. saying "Strongly suggest your dad tweets this link if he mentions us".

A source familiar with the congressional investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election told The Atlantic that Trump Jr. contacted a number of senior Trump campaign officials hours after receiving those messages, telling them that WikiLeaks had made contact.

Trump Jr. did not respond to those messages and seemed to ignore many others, but there were a number of instances in which he did write back. "For those who have the time to read about all the corruption and hypocrisy all the @wikileaks emails are right here", he said, and attached the link. "Any comments?" WikiLeaks wrote, the Atlantic reported. The fact that so many on the campaign, including Don Jr., knew about this certainly makes it hard to believe Trump himself didn't also know.

Meanwhile, WikiLeaks continued to DM him, at one point asking him to leak them Trump Sr.'s tax returns to help the group "improve the perception of our impartiality", suggesting that Trump not concede the election if he loses, and after the election making the odd suggestion that the he should "suggest that Australia appoint Assange ambassador" to the US. He claimed WikiLeaks does not keep record of those messages and that the The Atlantic's report "does not have the full context".

Trump Jr. was repeatedly contacted by the shadowy organization in an attempt to have Trump help spread WikiLeaks documents across the web, according to The Atlantic magazine. They ranged from questions to a request for the Trump campaign to "push" a story to requests for leaks, but he appears not to have answered majority.

Trump Jr. may not have responded to that message.

"Over the last several months, we have worked cooperatively with each of the committees and have voluntarily turned over thousands of documents in response to their requests", Alan Futerfas, an attorney for Trump Jr., said in a statement. "Hey Donald, great to see you and your dad talking about our publications", WikiLeaks wrote.

"Hi Don. Hope you're doing well!"

WikiLeaks told Trump Jr. that it it would be "real easy and helpful" if Trump asked Australia to appoint Julian Assange ambassador to the US.

WikiLeaks added that Australia would not appoint Assange ambassador to the United States, but that the request from Trump alone would force Australia, the UK, and Sweden to "stop bending" the law "to ingratiate themselves with the Clintons". However, there's no indication that the group answered this question from Trump Jr. or gave him advance notice.

The message came three days after The New York Times published a bombshell report detailing Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer in June 2016 at Trump Tower.
