Luxury and Comfort: Emirates Unveils Design of New First Class Cabin (Photos)

"This is the first time an Emirates product has been so influenced by another luxury brand, but it is a natural fit as both Emirates and Mercedes-Benz have the same unwavering commitment to fine detail, uncompromising quality, and a drive to push the boundaries", Clark said in a statement.

When talking to FlightGlobal about the new competition back in 2014, Emirates Airline president Tim Clark described the 787-10 as a "10h-capable" aircraft, and indicated a requirement for a widebody able to serve medium-range sectors from Dubai where the focus was on good economics rather than ultimate payload/range performance. "The engines are spec'd at 70-72 [thousand pounds thrust], but the conditions we're getting [operating from Dubai means] it can't take the payload", said Clark in 2014.

"As a pioneer, Emirates implemented the concept of the First Class suite as early as 2003".

The 40-square-foot private suites are expected to start at £7,000 ($9,175) one way.

In addition to the deal with Boeing, Emirates unveiled a new first class for its long-range 777 jets.

But the suite in the middle also gets its own virtual window that shows the same scenery as the real ones.

Dubai's flagship airline also revealed images of its new economy and business class cabins, highlighting a new colour code and larger, leather seats.

Emirates reportedly worked with Mercedes-Benz to model the experience after the luxe S-Class, and first class fliers are even treated to Mercedes chauffeur service once they land.

"Economy Class seats have adjustable full leather headrests, and the inflight entertainment system has been upgraded for all cabin classes".

"It gives us far more in our arsenal to deal with the type segmentation of demand that we're looking at in the next decade", said Clark.

The termination of the order for 50 A350-900s and 20 -1000s left nothing smaller than the 777-300ER on backlog - an aircraft that seats 354-428 passengers in Emirates' various configurations.

The new cabins will first launch on Emirates' Boeing 777-300 fleet on routes from Dubai to Brussels and Geneva, before being added to routes like Perth and Brisbane.
