Fernando Alonso to start season best sixth in F1 Brazilian Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso was left sceptical of his chances of reaching Q3 in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix after a tough Friday of Formula 1 practice running at Interlagos that was hindered by an issue on his Honda power unit.

Last season's Brazilian Grand Prix was also an emotional affair, with fans anticipating it to have been Massa's last home event.

Felipe Jr. said: "Daddy, I'm so proud of you". The vehicle is showing great performance lately and I think that is coming from the chassis development.

"Thank you for everything that we passed together, for all the support".

"The energy that I felt today here, to make the best race I could". "Normally we cross the line and we are one of the first cars so are always P7, P8 but then when the radio call comes, normally it's P9 or P10 so, when the said still P7 and we start in six tomorrow, I say yes". Wherever you go I will support you.

"I had an wonderful start". Zero mistakes. I tried to put pressure on him. I knew that keeping him behind for 71 laps would be very hard, but I managed to do it.

"I'm really emotional today because of all of you guys", the Williams driver said in a special interview with fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello on the podium in Sao Paulo. I managed to overtake Alonso, which was very important for me as I knew he would have better pace than me. I was very close to Felipe out of the last corner a few times and thought "now is the time I will pass him" but even with DRS he was pulling away. I drove a flawless race from beginning to end, managed the tyres, managed everything around the auto, the pace I had. I was so emotional when I finished the race.

"Today was definitely like a victory and to finish the race and feel the emotion of the people after such an awesome race". Today I finished like I wanted.

"It was a race that I will never forget".

"That's quite a good direction that we took and in Australia next year we will be a completely different team and we are looking forward".
