Google brings lens AI to Google Assistance in Pixel

Even so, the addition of Lens stands to make Assistant much more useful. Up until this point, the only way to actually use Lens was by taking a picture, going to Google Photos, and then tapping the Lens icon so it could scan whatever you'd captured. It'll scan barcodes and things like that too, plus you could quickly find out information about books, movies, and art. Lens was first introduced back in May and made available within Google Photos last month as part of the Pixel 2 launch.

Google Lens was originally unveiled at I/O 2017 as a new way of identifying objects and places in the world with just your smartphone.

Google says that it can save information from business cards, follow URLs, call phone numbers, recognize addresses and landmarks. Google Lens also allows you to add details, like the movie release date or a gallery opening, directly to your calendar.

When traveling around a new city, you can open Assistant, tap the Lens icon and get the feature to tell you about any landmarks, plus any additional history about the building or tourist attraction.

Want to know what a book is about, simple use Google Lens and it will provide a short synopsis of the book, together with ratings.

Google Lens is rolling out to all Pixel phones that are using Assistant in the English language in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, and Singapore. It was originally shipped as a beta built into the camera app on the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, and now, Google says, it'll begin rolling out to users of the Google Assistant on the Pixel 2 and original Pixel over the coming weeks.

Lens also works as a more efficient barcode and QR code scanner.
