-Gen.Yoav "Poly" Mordechai warned that the group is "playing with fire;" that Israel is "aware of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's plot that is being formed against Israel;" and that the IDF would respond with force against Hamas, the authority in the Gaza Strip. The destruction from three Israeli offensives since 2008, including damage to the enclave's water, sanitation, energy, and medical facilities, coupled with slow reconstruction due to the blockade, led the United Nations to warn that Gaza could be "uninhabitable" by 2020.

Work on Israel's new underground barrier with Gaza has also been affected by the increased tension.

The group said it would not back down on its "right" to retaliate against Israel for the tunnel explosion, which led to the deaths of 12 of its members, including two commanders, as well as two members of Hamas's military wing.

The Trump administration's worldwide negotiations representative, Jason Greenblatt, on Monday called on the terror group to tone down its war rhetoric, tweeting, "Extremist statements & provocation vs. Israel by Islamic Jihad significantly harm the people of Gaza & are very unsafe".

The IDF arrested PIJ commander Tariq Qa'adan on Monday in the Palestinian town of Arrabeh. The freedom tunnel is not the only tunnel owned by the Islamic Jihad.

"We advise Islamic Jihad's leadership in Damascus to exercise caution and keep things under control". Any attacks by the Islamic Jihad will elicit a strong response, not only against them, but also against Hamas.

"The reckless actions and statements of militants in Gaza risk a unsafe escalation".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday warned Palestinian fighters against carrying out attacks in revenge for the blowing up of a tunnel stretching from the Gaza Strip into the Jewish state last month. [The] US is working with the PA, Israel, Egypt & others to try to improve the situation.
