The whole Captain/Ms. Marvel thing could event be skipped over in the film by having Law's Kree Warrior be known as simply Mar-Vell and providing Danvers with the inspiration for her nom de guerre.

Brie will play Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who is involved in an accident, during which she gains superpowers of strength, energy project, and flight after her DNA is fused with an alien's.

Previously this year, at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel producer Kevin Feige stated that the Captain Marvel movie would take place in the 1990s, preceding all other entries in the MCU except for Captain America: The First Avenger and the TV series Agent Carter. A Security Chief in the USA air force, Danvers would later be transformed into the superhero Ms. Marvel following an explosion involving Kree technology.

This would mark the second major tentpole part Law has landed this year after getting the role of young Albus Dumbledore in "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald". Although not said directly in this casting report, in comic books Mar-Vell is the Kree warrior who was Carol Danvers' namesake and mentor as the original Captain Marvel. He finds his way back to Earth, where he dons the mantle of Captain Marvel, an alien savior/superhero who gets into some really weird stuff. She later adopted the Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel codenames in his honor.
