Judge unanimous choice for AL Rookie of Year

Aaron Judge is the first Yankee to win Rookie of the Year since Derek Jeter in 1996

He hit twice as many home runs and posted THREE TIMES as much FanGraphs WAR as any other AL rookie on his way to what could be an MVP season. The awards are voted on by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

These two winners have basically been decided since June, and if there was ever any doubt they both quashed it with their late-season performance. Monday's honor made him the Dodgers' 18th rookie of the year victor, by far the most of any franchise, and their second in a row, after Corey Seager in 2016.

Judge had a historic first season, belting 52 home runs for the Yankees, the most by a rookie in big league history.

Bellinger was a surprise breakout performer for the Dodgers this year after taking over for the injured Adrian Gonzalez at first base.

It's the second year in a row a Dodger won Rookie of the Year.

But signing New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is about as popular as you can get. But once he was called up on April 25, Bellinger proved to be one of the best hitters in the NL. Bellinger beat out Pirates first baseman Josh Bell and Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong.

The Yankees slugger, and former Fresno State baseball star, was a unanimous choice for the honor, as was Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger in the National League voting. In the AL, Andrew Benintendi finished second, followed by Trey Mancini and Matt Olson.

His fantastic first half, culminating in his Home Run Derby victory at Marlins Park, turned him into a transcendent figure, someone baseball commissioner Rob Manfred projected as a potential face of the game.

Adding to each player's memorable 2017 campaign, both the Dodgers and Yankees impressed during the postseason while Los Angeles ultimately came up short in the World Series.
