STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Return with a New Singer New Single- Hear it Now

The fast-paced guitar track features the voice of Jeff Gutt, the 41-year-old singer from the defunct California nu-metal band Dry Cell who had returned to his native MI.

Just shy of the second anniversary of iconic frontman Scott Weiland's death, Stone Temple Pilots are ushering in a new era with - believe it or not - a metro-Detroit native. (There is, however, some bootleg audio, if you click around for long enough.) At that show, Gutt debuted "Meadow", the first STP single with him on vocals, and STP have now shared that song.

Stone Temple Pilots are planning to release their new album with Gutt in during autumn next year.

Weiland was replaced by Linkin Park's Chester Bennington in May 2013, before he left the group in 2015 to focus exclusively on Linkin Park, prior to his death this year. A member of the Detroit rock scene, Gutt was the only one of the 30 vocalists to tryout who didn't submit an online audition - his invitation came after Robert DeLeo heard about Gutt while in Detroit for a show with the Hollywood Vampires. "Talk about a happy accident". "It was clear right away that Jeff had the range to sing vocally challenging songs like "Piece Of Pie" and "Interstate Love Song".

For his part, Gutt says, "No one will ever fill Scott's shoes and I'm not trying to - he's a legend". Gutt played his first show with STP at the Troubadour last night, but phones weren't allowed, so there's no footage online yet.

Guitarist Dean DeLeo, who is the bassist's brother, told Rolling Stone that Gutt was well-equipped to sing the parts of Weiland and also to take the band forward musically. "It took some time, but we found our guy", Dean DeLeo explained.

What do you think of the first song by the new Stone Temple Pilots?
