The Uber rival will head north of the border to Canada, specifically the city of Toronto, which also happens to be the location for Alpahabet's very own smart city which it also unveiled a couple of weeks ago.

'Before you know it, Lyft will be coming to you live in Toronto, ' the company said in a blogpost, without giving a launch date. Lyft has repeatedly met with London regulators. The company says it is now worth $11bn.

An investigation of sexual harassment and bullying resulted in the firing of 20 employees, and the company has promised changes.

In 2017, Lyft expanded to cover around 94 percent of USA residents, up from around 60 percent at the start of the year, with multiple new markets added across the country.

Uber has 40 million customers worldwide.
