Morbius The Living Vampire #1 Marvel

Also known as Dr. Michael Morbius, the character was a brilliant biochemist suffering from a rare blood disorder, who tried to cure himself with an experimental treatment involving vampire bats.

At this point, I have stopped questioning Sony's decisions to attempt to break it big with cinematic universes but can only remain in a state of disbelief as the studio throws ideas at the wall. Morbius essentially turned himself into a vampire, requiring the blood of others to sustain himself and keep from dying to the aforementioned disease. This leads to Morbius battling our friendly neighborhood web-head and, over time, becoming a slightly heroic figure in his own right.

Furthermore, Sony has not mentioned how they will be reinventing the character of Morbius or if they will sticking to canon material.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Power Rangers writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama have recently submitted a script for the movie, simply titled Morbius, to Sony after a secret development process. Sharpless and Sazama themselves dabbled in the supernatural genre, penning Universal's Dracula Untold, another disappointing building block for a troubled cinematic universe.

Sony has been actively developing a new line of Spider-Man spinoffs since the success of sharing the headlining character with Marvel just a few years back.

Which is why it's hard to get excited about a Morbius movie, which comes completely out of left field. His physical appearance was transformed to become more bat-like, making him one of the more striking monsters in the Marvel universe. He originally appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man but has since gained his own solo titles as well as stories like the (excellent) 2010 Legion of Monsters minseries.

It's unclear if the new Morbius film would directly tie into Sony's Venom or the Black Cat and Silver Sable team-up movie.

And now we have a third movie for Morbius, the Living Vampire.
