Woman Receives Deferred Sentence For Marrying Mother

An Oklahoma woman who married her biological mother has pleaded guilty to incest.

Misty Spann, 26, pleaded guilty to illegally marrying 44-year-old Patricia Spann and was sentenced in Stepens County District Court, according to Tulsa World.

Her mom told authorities that the pair reconnected in 2014 and "hit it off". The marriage licence application in Comanche County identified the mother as Patricia Ann Clayton, Tulsa World reported, citing court documents.

Patricia said she did the research herself and thought the marriage would be ok as she no longer as the same name from Misty's birth certificate.

The marriage between the mother-daughter duo came to light only recently during an inquiry by a state Department of Human Services child welfare investigator.

What's perhaps most shocking of all is that this isn't the first time Patricia has been caught in a romantic relationship with one of her children.

Previously, Patricia Spann had married her biological son in 2008, but never reported it. That marriage was annulled in 2010, records show.

Misty's mother, Patricia, is scheduled to appear in court in January. The views expressed therein are not necessarily those of stlucianewsonline.com, its sponsors or advertisers.

"Why she chose her daughter, I'm not sure", Smith said.

When she and Misty were reunited, Patricia allegedly said they "hit it off". According to local reports, Patricia allegedly married her son because he was in the military, and she wanted to prevent him from going overseas.

Misty filed for the marriage to be annulled "by reason of illegality and fraud". She forced my sister into this, there's a lot of people that now that.

"For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you?" The incest charge against the mother is still pending.

Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether or not the relationship is sexual. The Spann children were raised by their paternal grandmother.
