Zverev will move on to a meeting with Roger Federer on Tuesday, a player he beat to win the Montreal Masters earlier in the year.

"This is the best I've felt since the (Juan Martin) del Potro final (in Basel)".

While he said that clinching a berth at this tournament is nearly like winning a title, we shouldn't expect the German to not fully turn up for his matches.

Eight-time Grand slam victor and American legend Andre Agassi believes that Roger Federer is the favourite to win the ATP World Tour Finals as Rafael Nadal does not do well late in the year because of "wear and tear".

Last year's world No. 1, Andy Murray, who is nursing a hip problem, was also practising at the O2 Arena this weekend; he was moving better, too, than he had in Glasgow last week for his exhibition match with Federer. "I'm working every day, practising well and just trying to be ready for the action".

The Swiss broke Sock in the first game and then worked just hard enough to ensure the advantage stayed with him through the first set.

Rafael Nadal said "see you tomorrow on court" as he signed off from an address to the Centre Court crowd after receiving his year-end world No. 1 trophy at the end of the Federer-Sock match.

His forehand wavered at times as Cilic cleverly tried to take the pace off the ball with some floaty slices, but Zverev closed out the first set with an ace. I believe I need to win that one to give myself a chance to go through.

Even after racing into a 40-0 lead in the fifth game, Sock was taken to deuce before finally fending off the threat.

The Swiss star has triumphed at the season ending event, which features the top eight men's players, on six previous occasions.

"It was a fearless move for him to just put himself out there, give it a go", said Federer. "The crowd, the atmosphere is awesome", Zverev, who reveled on the big stage, told reporters after the late-night finish. "That's what I should have aimed for", he joked.

Sock is one of four players to qualify for the tournament for the first time.

We've played some good matches - on clay in Madrid for example.
