The Lima Salvation Army needs volunteers

The Salvation Army relies on the money raised through the Red Kettle campaign to provide Christmas to local families in need and to safeguard the well being of the community through year-round programming and social services.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program will kick-off on Black Friday, Nov. 24, 2017.

Kettles will be placed in three locations as of November 23 to give the Salvation Army more time to meet its goal.

The Salvation Army will be kicking off the 2017 Christmas Kettle Campaign Nov. 16 and the community is invited to gather at its Community Life Centre for the celebration. "We raised $16,000 a year ago". However the kettle funds are not just for Christmas but all year-long.

Leslie Johnson, program coordinator at the Mankato Salvation Army, said groups interested in volunteering for a whole day would be particularly helpful.

"I think people in this community like to help, and they know there's a certain number we need, they get it done", said Shrum.

Volunteers help as well, and they're always in demand come bell-ringing time.

The Salvation Army is also hosting a Thanksgiving Day Community Meal on November 23 from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m.at the Salvation Army Chesapeake Energy Center of Hope, located at 1001 N. Pennsylvania Ave. "The only difference between you and a police officer is that they are getting paid to do those things". Bell ringers will accompany the kettles asking for donations every day of the week, except Sunday, through December 24.
