San Francisco 49ers finally get first win by beating New York Giants

It wasn't a spectacular game, but one great play came in the second quarter, when San Francisco's C.J. Beathard looked like a true National Football League starting quarterback, delivering one of his three total TDs with an on-target bomb to Marquise Goodwin for an 83-yard score. However, with a loss to the 49ers and another season of underperforming, major shakeups to the franchise are coming.

49ers quarterback C.J Beathard, a third-round pick out of Iowa, was able to dissect the Giants defense, passing for 288 yards with two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown as well. Those arguments are understandable but nobody, especially the 49ers, wants to go winless. Giants have given up 82 points in two weeks.

Chances are, that will happen as early as the Niners' next game, which is November 26 against the Seattle Seahawks.

BETTER OFFENSE: With left tackle Joe Staley back from a 1 1/2-game absence, Beathard enjoyed better protection (no sacks, two hits) while Shanahan unleashed a game plan filled with screen passes, bootlegs and toss plays.

At the end of the season, there could be changes made to the roster. At halftime, Beathard was 13-of-16 for 198 yards with the two touchdowns for a 157.8 passr rating. Olivier Vernon called it "embarrassing". The rookie quarterback, who completed barely more than half of his passes entering Sunday's contest, was an efficient 19 for 25 and wasn't sacked.

The San Francisco 49ers earned their first win of the season today, in Week 10, by beating the Giants 31-21.

PLAY OF YEAR: The 49ers worked all offseason and camp to connect deep with Goodwin for a touchdown, and it finally paid off with a score.
