Star Wars Battlefront 2 Is a Great Game With One Big Problem

Apparently they want a system where players can have a "sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes". This week, EA stepped in it again with some unpopular decisions about Star Wars Battlefront 2 and ended up with what may be literally the most-downvoted comment in Reddit history. For reference, each trooper loot box costs 4,000 credits, with hero and starfighter boxes coming in at under 2,500 credits each.

We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

Obviously a 40 hour grind to unlock iconic characters for Star Wars Battlefront II's multiplayer has not gone down well, and it appears EA have tried to address those concerns on Reddit. While I'm only a few missions in, the campaign's engrossing, lifelike cutscenes and healthy gameplay variety could make it the playable Star Wars movie I've always wanted out of a Battlefront game.

An Electronic Arts representative on Sunday responded to the claim that unlocking one of Battlefront 2's biggest heroes or villains will take 40 hours of gameplay.

Both the EA community team and Brannvall stated that the developer is open to making changes based on player feedback and balancing the game. After Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Call of Duty: WWII, and Star Wars Battlefront II, all the hope and optimism at the start of 2017 has largely evaporated, giving way to a heavy backlash from gamers against these Loot boxes.

By comparison, the second most downvoted comment on the platform now stands at a negative of 24,333 downvotes - more than 10 times less than EA's post.

Reddit users on the page r/StarWarsBattlefront flooded the site over the weekend with comments disparaging the difficulty of unlocking certain characters to be used in the game and vowing to boycott the title upon its official release Friday.

EA is now in damage control mode, but fans are having none of it. "I shouldn't require a sense of pride and accomplishment to play as a hallmark character in my favorite franchise". In Battlefront II, EA has made heroes unlockable parts of the game, which is not inherently bad. One Redditor said, "The problem isn't that the heroes are locked, it's that you can skip the wait by throwing more money at it, making the wait not for accomplishments, but to entice people to pay for it".

Death threats over game features came into vogue during the early days of the GamerGate controversy. Another Redditor created a list of the most downvoted posts ever, and EA's reply post has nearly as many downvotes as the entire list combined. We will provide more details and updates as we can.
