Following other colleges, Florida State University moved to indefinitely ban all fraternity and sorority activities until "a new normal for Greek Life at the university" is reached, according to a statement from John E. Thrasher, the university's president. They also said they have had no previous knowledge of alcohol-related incidents with the fraternity.

San Marcos Police Department found Matthew Ellis, a student and Phi Kappa Psi pledge, unresponsive Monday morning at an apartment off campus. His friends called 911 at approximately 11 a.m., the day after his fraternity's initiation ceremonies on November 12, when they realized he wasn't breathing. Friends of Ellis called 911, and Ellis was pronounced dead after first responders were unable to revive him, Trauth said.

Witnesses told cops how Ellis, a Business major, was pledging for Phi Kappa Psi. Phi Kappa Psi did not have any registered social event the day before Ellis' death, according to an online calendar of approved social events.

Florida State University took almost identical measures last week in suspending greek life. In her email, Trauth stated she has suspend all activities of fraternities and sororities until a review has been completed.

A preliminary investigation suggests Ellis may have died from alcohol poisoning, CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS-TV reports.

Texas State University President Denise M. Trauth said in a statement Tuesday that she was "deeply saddened by the tragic death".

The cause of Coffey's death is still undetermined, pending the autopsy, but police believe alcohol may have played a role in his death.

It is imperative that our entire university community develop a culture that places the highest priority on the safety of its students, faculty, and staff.
