Sweden and Italy gear up for World Cup playoff clash

Sweden, happy to soak up the pressure, are looking comfortable and have the luxury of sitting in as they hold the first-leg advantage. Typically there would be no disgrace in finishing behind the stylish Spaniards, but the uninspiring nature of the Italian qualifying performances did not auger well for an easy ride in the play-offs.

Reigning champions Germany are in no such position having already confirmed their spot in Russian Federation and, while Low believes Sweden have shown plenty to suggest they deserve to qualify, he also feels Italy failing to qualify would be a blow to the tournament.

Jakob Johansson scored the only goal of the game in Friday's first-leg in Solna to give Sweden something to protect in the return leg against Giampiero Ventura's men - and the stage is set for a dramatic showdown.

Ventura did eventually put Insigne on the pitch in that match, but in doing so removed Marco Verratti, the one midfielder in the lineup who had a chance of linking up with Insigne to try and chase an equalizer.

"We want to reach the World Cup, we've been working towards that and after the first leg we haven't changed our minds on that".

Janne Andersson's men, though, will be in confident mood of securing qualification following that impressive first-leg victory in Solna; Betfair Sportsbook go 13/2 (7.50) that the Swedes secure a World Cup place in style by claiming a famous victory in Milan, while the same firm offer 14/5 (3.80) that the match remains level at the end of 90 minutes - a result that would see the Azzurri eliminated - whilst they also offer 17/20 (1.85) that Sweden reach Russian Federation.

"We can make no mistakes, we are focusing on what we must do to win but if we fail to qualify everybody should take the blame", the 39-year-old Juventus player said at the pre-match press conference.

"We know we can win this game, we dream to qualify for the World Cup, it's an important game for us and for the history of the national team".

"We are not stressed, personally I am focused on the game and I hope fans will support us". The game means a lot for all of us, not only for me.

Sweden leads 1-0 from first leg and going through as it stands. "It would be a great satisfaction to qualify for the World Cup".
