The players returned to the USA last week.

LaVar Ball may have been privy to this pattern when he said Trump didn't need his personal expression of gratitude for his role in helping his son escape legal ramifications when he and his UCLA basketball teammates shoplifted in China.

His son LiAngelo, along with two other UCLA basketball players, were caught shoplifting sunglasses while in the country for a game.

In a series of Twitter posts, Trump said, "Lavar, you could have spent the next 5 to 10 years during Thanksgiving with your son in China, but no National Basketball Association contract to support you".

According to Apex Marketing Group, a company that examines sports profits, Big Ball Brand has gained an estimated $13.2 million in free digital and TV advertising since Trump and Ball have been exchanging grievances.

"It wasn't the White House, it wasn't the State Department, it wasn't father LaVar's so-called people on the ground in China that got his son out of a long term prison sentence - IT WAS ME", Trump wrote in a two-part tweet early Wednesday morning.

"I'm from LA. I've seen a lot worse things happen than a guy taking some glasses".

"What a shame! LaVar is simply Don King's version of a poor man, however without hair. Just think.", Trump tweeted, referring to the American boxing promoter. Have they not figured out that if you mess with Trump, he's going to mess with you.

Continuing a volley of insults over social media that has gone on for over a week, Trump took after LaVar Ball, the father of university basketball player LiAngelo Ball, in a series of tweets.

LiAngelo and fellow UCLA freshmen Jalen Hill and Cody Riley have been suspended indefinitely.

Xi "was terrific, and they're working on it right now", Trump added. "That's nearly as bad as kneeling!" "When will the highly paid Commissioner finally get tough and smart?"

A National Football League representative had no immediate comment.
