Utah’s Rudy Gobert gets knocked down but comes back swinging in loss to the Miami Heat

Jazz center Rudy Gobert was examined Saturday by the Utah Jazz medical staff and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing.

According to Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Jazz asked the league to review the play and were told Waiters should have been called for a foul but not an intentional one. He missed the following game, however, a 114-106 Utah win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday before being ruled out for an extended time.

"Obviously, it will be a difference", Gobert's teammate, Derrick Favors, exclaimed after witnessing the injury. "I think it was a dirty play, but no matter what the most important thing is to keep getting better and to win tomorrow".

Did Dion Waiters intentionally hurt Rudy Gobert?

Rudy Gobert is averaging 13.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in his fifth season in the National Basketball Association. Gobert would limp off the court, but return in the fourth quarter after being diagnosed with a right knee contusion.

Gobert said he suffered a similar injury to his MCL and said his knee popped inside and then back out. The Jazz are sitting at 6-7, a part of the jumble of also-rans expected to compete for the last few playoff spots in the West. Gobert gives the Jazz their identity-without him, they're a plodding, low-wattage offense without any particular interior defensive oomph.
