Vans Warped Tour to End After 24 Years Following Its 2018 Lineup

2018 will be the final full cross-country tour for Warped Tour, according to a release Wednesday from tour founder Kevin Lyman.

After 24 years, the Vans Warped Tour will come to an end after its summer 2018 run, which includes one final stop in St. Petersburg on August 4.

Lyman notes that even though the tour won't continue in its current form, the Warped Tour brand will be alive in some manner in 2019, with previous teases of cruises, small runs in Mexico and perhaps elsewhere. Bands such as Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold and My Chemical Romance are notable alumni who jumpstarted their careers by garnering recognition during their Warped Tour appearances.

In an interview with Billboard, tour founder Kevin Lyman spoke a little bit about what led to the decision to make 2018 the a year ago.

The festival also had a couple of attempts of bringing the show over here between 1998 and 2002, and again in 2013 - with a regional Warped tour bringing some of the biggest names in punk and its sub-genres to Australia.

RIP Warped Tour, and good luck to whatever is going to fill that void.

Lyman told Billboard in an exclusive interview that the reason for the tough decision was due in part to "an evolving summer festival industry, a shrinking pool of bands, and declining ticket sales amongst its teenage demographic".

Though a formative stepping stone for many bands and, eventually, rappers (you can blame Warped Tour for Tyga), the festival was not without controversy.

I am so grateful to have worked with more than 1,700 bands over the last 23 summers. Additionally, they hosted more than 90 different nonprofit organizations like To Write Love On Her Arms, Truth, Music Saves Lives and Hope for the Day. I truly look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during this final cross country run, and getting to thank you for your support on this wild adventure.
