Emirates keeps pressure on Airbus to commit to A380 project

Airline pioneer Bill Franke placed a historic order for 430 Airbus A320neo-family jets on Wednesday, doubling down on investments in ultra-low cost airlines that offer bargain ticket prices coupled with a slate of extra fees.

The deal is expected to be officially announced later Wednesday at the Dubai Air Show, they added.

According to reports, Airbus is close to signing the biggest deal in its history.

.

"Indigo Partners have been a tremendous customer and supporter of the Airbus single-aisle fleet for many years", said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

Indigo controls Frontier and Chilean low-cost start-up JetSmart and also holds stakes in Mexican budget airline Volaris and European low-cost carrier Wizz.

After final purchase deals with each are confirmed, likely by the end of the year, Hungary's Wiz Air will receive 72 A320neos and 74 A321neos, USA carrier Frontier Airlines will receive 100 A320neos and 34 A321neos, Chile's JetSMART will receive 56 A320neos and 14 A321neos and Mexico's Volaris will receive 46 A320neos and 34 A321neos.

In addition, a separate deal for 175 jets from flyDubai, possibly to be split between Airbus and Boeing is also on the cards.

The order includes A320neos and A321neos, the source said.

That has triggered industry talk of a swan-song order worth tens of billions of dollars to be negotiated by Leahy before end-year.
