You can now broadcast messages from your phone to Google Home

Google is finally giving you a good reason to buy more than one Google Home speaker

All you have to do is say, "Ok Google, broadcast it's time for school" and then all the speakers and phones will hear that message (well, provided they're already awake of course).

As the competition in the smart home speaker market continues to heat up from established players Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc., which is due to release its premium HomePod next month, Google needs to keep adding new features and devices to remain competitive.

For now, you can't specify which speaker you would want the broadcast to play from but parents should have less of a sore throat when telling the kids to come down for dinner.

The feature is now available in the US, Australia, Canada and the UK.

Google Home speakers just got a lot more useful.

From dinner bells to shouting, attempting to gather the family from around the house is nothing new.

We're told that, "for certain everyday things like waking up, dinnertime or settling down for bed, the Assistant can also send a playful message on your behalf".

One of those features that is now available for Google Home owners is the broadcast function that allows users to broadcast messages from their smartphone or Google Home to other Home devices in the house.

To use the new feature, all you have to do is say "Okay Google, broadcast", using the Google Assistant app or a Google Home speaker. To ensure that broadcasting works across all your devices, make sure you're signed in with the same Google Account.

You can even set the device to be used as an alarm. The broadcast message is already rolling out in the US, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, so support is only for English for now.
