Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for homes on Moraga Drive, Linda Flora Drive and Casiano Road down to Bellagio Road.

The blaze was 0% contained and residents had been evacuated from an area covering more than 20 square miles.

The fire was reported at around 4:50 a.m. local time, according to CBS News.

The fires in Southern California have quickly spread, forcing authorities to shut down the 405 freeway near the Getty Center. Some area restaurants chose to remain open amid the fire and smoke-filled skies, while others closed shop for the day.

More than 125 city firefighters were on scene and the LAFD was being assisted with an additional helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, according to Stewart. Crews were working against 25 miles per hour winds, though authorities said the fire was traveling uphill and was driven by the landscape and not the wind.

"This fire is very risky and spreading rapidly, but we'll continue to attack it with all we've got", Brown said. The fire jumped the 210 Freeway and burned in Shadow Hills to the south, where residents scrambled to evacuate hundreds of horses, alpacas and other animals.

Another fire, dubbed the Creek Fire, raged near Sylmar and Kagel Canyon.

The crews were assigned to structure protection for both residential and business structures and could be in Los Angeles County for up to 14-days before returning home.

"This has only just begun", said Terrazas.

More than 600 firefighters battled the blaze amid strong Santa Ana winds, some gusting at 70 miles per hour.

Strong winds were hindering the deployment of firefighting aircraft, according to fire officials.
