Fifty-two percent of registered voters - of whom 39 percent are Democrats - disapprove of how the Democratic Party is handling the same issues.

Seventy percent of Republicans like it, but only 25 percent of independents and 7 percent of Democrats agree.A Quinnipiac University poll found similar results: Twenty-nine percent of those surveyed said they approve the bill, while 53 percent disapprove.

Forty-one percent of voters said they expect their taxes to go up under the GOP plan, 32 percent said they think it would not have much impact and 20 percent said they think it would reduce their taxes.

Almost two-thirds of voters, meanwhile, said they believe the wealthy will be the biggest beneficiaries of the GOP tax plan, compared to about a quarter who said they think middle class Americans will see the largest benefit. Another 67 percent of registered Independents polled agreed Congress should look into the allegations.

The same poll gave President Donald Trump an approval rating of 35 percent and a disapproval rating of 58 percent.

In a Gallup survey, 29 percent of respondents approved of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, while 56 percent disapproved.

Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said the findings suggest voters consider President Donald Trump and Republicans' efforts to overhaul the US tax code as being "built for the rich at the expense of the rest".

The poll, involving 1,120 adults nationwide, was conducted by telephone on December 3-5.

As the Senate version of the Republican tax reform bill made its way through the legislative process this past weekend, Gallup documented a highly partisan imbalance in Americans' reactions.

Speaking to reporters before a lunch with several Republican senators, Trump said the bill which passed the Senate last week would soon make it out of a conference committee and head to his desk for signing. "It's a fantastic bill for the middle class", Mr. Trump said. The House passed its version November 15.
