Alex Hales cleared to play for England after Bristol nightclub incident

The England and Wales Cricket Board will not begin an internal disciplinary process for Hales or Stokes until the conclusion of any potential criminal proceedings related to the incident.

They eventually reached 221 for nine in their 50 overs, with Stokes then opening the bowling, a four-over spell producing 26 runs.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said he can not play for England while he waits to discover if he will be charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). He is now playing for Canterbury in New Zealand, but he remains suspended from national duty.

He didn't fire, bowled by Anaru Kitchen for two, but Otago opener Rutherford did, his 100 laying the ground work for a three-wicket win as his side chased down their 222 target with 15 balls to spare.

Anderson spoke earlier this week about the possibility of becoming vice-captain, confirming he would not rule himself out if asked but adding too that he does not see the role as a critical one - with so many experienced players on hand to help Root. It was expected he was going to be a little bit rusty.

Canterbury travel to Auckland Aces in their second match of the one-day competition on Wednesday.

With a decision not to be made for several weeks, Stokes seems unlikely to play in England's current Ashes series in Australia.

Hales had been present in Mbargo nightclub on the morning of September 25, in the aftermath of England's ODI victory over West Indies, when Stokes was arrested following an altercation in which he appeared to swing punches at two men.

Stokes, who broke a finger in the incident, was released under investigation.
