Lamar Jackson Bryce Love Baker Mayfield named Heisman finalists

The Heisman Trophy finalists were revealed Monday and, just as important as who received an invitation to New York City next Saturday is who did not get invited.

Jackson's also rushed for 1,443 yards and 17 touchdowns on 208 carries, averaging almost 7 yards per rush. The senior quarterback has completed 71.0 percent of his passes, throwing for 4,340 yards, 41 touchdowns and just five interceptions. The other finalist is Stanford running back Bryce Love. It's the second straight year for Mayfield to be named a finalist. Despite missing one game due to injury, he was second in the nation in rushing and led the nation with 10 runs of 50 yards or more.

Mayfield and the Sooners finished the 2017 season 12-1, with their only loss coming against Iowa State in early October. Players receive three points for a first-place vote, two for a second and one for a third. He also has five rushing touchdowns on the year.

He is in line to be the sixth Sooner to win the award and the third OU quarterback so honored in the last 15 years, joining Jason White (2003) and Sam Bradford (2008).

Since announcing his decision to return to Oklahoma, Mayfield has been open about his desire to win a national championship.

If it holds, Mayfield's efficiency rating of 203.8 would shatter the record he set a year ago of 196.39. Next, Mayfield and the No. 2 Sooners will take on No. 3 Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Love rushed for 100 yards in 11 of the 12 games he played, including performances of 263 yards against UCLA and 301 yards against Arizona State in back-to-back weeks.

The victor of the 2017 Heisman Trophy will be announced Sunday night on ESPN.
