Florida Student Believed to Have Run Away With Soccer Coach Found Safe in New York: Sheriff

Caitlyn's parents spoke out about their reunion with their daughter in a press conference on Saturday.

It's believed she left without her parents' permission, according to an affidavit released by the Columbia County, Florida, Sheriff's Office. "It's been hard. I'm glad to have my daughter back where I know I can protect her and keep her safe as a father always wants to do", said her father Ward Frisina.

"We will be spending time together working through everything", she told Action News Jax via text message.

The Post-Standard reports police are holding Rian Rodriguez on a charge from Florida known as interference with child custody.

The teen's father, Ward Frisina, found his daughter's cell phone in her room and told authorities she had executed a "factory reset" on it, according to the affidavit. Late Friday night, New York State Police said he had been charged as a fugitive of justice, KNEB reported.

Frisina said Friday before her daughter was found that Rodriguez was the only person who didn't answer when she and her husband were calling around trying to find Caitlyn Sunday morning.

A day later, Caitlyn Frisina and her appeared before reporters.

A resource officer investigated a rumor in August that the teen and Rodriguez were in a relationship but concluded it wasn't true, WJAX reported. She said Caitlyn told her she felt coerced into going along with Rodrigeuz's plan, the affidavit says.

Law enforcement had been tracking Rodriguez through an ATM withdrawal in St. Mary's Georgia, and by surveillance cameras at SC and North Carolina convenience stores. According to documents, he told police he was able to pull some old Snapchat messages that confirmed her relationship with Rodriquez. "We are just thrilled to death to be together again", said the girl's mother, Scarlet Frisina.

Ward Frisina told police he made several attempts to contact Rodriguez, including leaving messages on his voicemail. She was reportedly anxious that Rodriguez would "mess up her life" if she didn't go along with him.

According to his arrest records, Rodriguez took a Discover credit card that belonged to his father and was used in Hardeeville and St. George, South Carolina. On Friday, police spotted Rodriguez's 2001 red Mercury Sable which the pair fled in and pulled the vehicle over, according to Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and took Rodriguez into custody without incident.

Jack Phillips contributed to this report.

"There could be additional charges if they find out she was threatened by Mr. Rodriguez", Smith said.
