Atletico de Madrid confirmed their exit from the UEFA Champions League with a 1-1draw at Chelsea, allowing Roma to advance to the round of 16 as group winners along with Paris St-Germain, despite their 1-3 defeat in Munich.

Diego Perotti scored early in the second-half as Roma edged Qarabag 1-0 at the Stadio Olympico to win Group C ahead of Chelsea, who had to come from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Atletico.

"It's now a new challenge for us". The only other restrictions are that teams from the same country can not be drawn together at this stage, and teams from the same group can not meet.

How does the Champions League Round of 16 draw work?

Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night which let AS Roma overtake them in the table.

However, the Premier League heavyweights can only face Barcelona, PSG or Besiktas in the next round.

After a lifeless first half, the second sprung to life with almost triple the amount of chances between the two teams.

"We have to go game by game and try to do our best", said boss Conte. The number of English sides finishing at the top of their group, means that Chelsea only have a few options when it comes round to the draw.

Causing Atletico all manner of problems, Morata nearly caught out Oblak with a dipping strike from wide on the left that had the keeper scrambling to save.

As it stands, Turkish side Besiktas are the only other possible opponents for the Blues in the knockout stages. When Torres flicked on a corner, Niguez easily escaped Tiemoue Bakayoko's slack marking and had the simple task of heading home from close range.

Christensen missed with another header and Pedro was denied by Oblak before Chelsea equalised with 15 minutes left when Cesc Fabregas' cross was turned towards goal by Hazard and Savic put the ball into his own net.

"Chelsea shouldn't fear anyone at the moment".
