Sri Lanka Cricket bungling – the reason for recalling Sri Lanka ODI team from airport

Meanwhile, Kusal Mendis, who was also rested for the ongoing three-match Test series against the Virat Kohli-led side, has been dropped.

Now, another controversy has hit the Sri Lankan team ahead of their limited-overs series.

Sri Lankan Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera stopped nine cricketers leaving for India on Tuesday to take part in a one-day series because he was unhappy with the team choice, sources said.

The islanders are now involved in a three-Test rubber against India. The players, hence, will arrive in India only after the team selection has been approved by the sports ministry.

Thisara Perera has been named the skipper to lead a strong 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India which starts on 10th December in Dharmasala.

Squad: Thisara Perera (captain), Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella (wicketkeeper), Chaturanga de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dhananjaya De Silva, Dushmantha Chameera, Sachith Pathirana, Kusal Perera.

Sri Lanka cricket board has announced a fifteen man contingent for the three-match one day worldwide series against India.

A "Cricbuzz" report said the players were already in the airport and one of them had even boarded the flight.

The Minister asserted that the team leaving the country without his approval was a blatant violation of the country's sports law. However, all the losses were under Upul Tharanga's captaincy and hence the selectors made a decision to try out a new limited-overs captain in Thisara Perera.
