The Salvation Army's goal this year is to raise $900,000 over the holiday season.

Forwards Tomas Tatar and goaltender Petr Mrazek will represent the Red Wings at Kroger in Royal Oak (2200 E. 12 Mile Rd.), while Red Wings Alumni Kris Draper and Chris Osgood will bell ring at the Kroger location in Plymouth (15455 Haggerty Rd.). Captain Charles Adams gives us the background of the Salvation Army in New Haven and the campaign.

Baldwin has been a volunteer bell ringer for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign for seven years.

The Salvation Army is also accepting toy donations at its church location and thrift stores until December 15.

"The service has been created to meet the humanitarian need of people that are experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year and to provide personalised support to help individuals on their unique journey from street to home". "They would fix me up a box to take home".

"I just don't really know how to say how incredible this is to the people that get it", said one woman.

The bells are ringing, but the Salvation Army's red kettles locally haven't collected as much jingle as officials of the charity had hoped.

"This is a commitment this team has made to the community, to be part of something", said Glenn Johnson, president of UAW Local 1112.

For Baldwin, it's all about spreading joy for a good cause.

It's not just Winston-Salem dealing with a shortage of volunteers.

Sign-ups will be hosted at the Salvation Army office in Terre Haute from 10 a.m.to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Friday.
