In Dublin, Gardai have warned of major delays after a three-car crash at Templeville Road earlier this evening.

A couple in their 70s, and their two sons aged in their 40s, died in a collision between their vehicle and an articulated lorry on the main New Ross to Wexford road at around 6.30pm yesterday.

Residents described the scene as "absolutely horrific" with debris scattered all over the roadside.

The collision occurred on the N25 New Ross to Ballinaboola road at Begerin Hill (approximately 2-3 miles from Ballinaboule).

Paramedics desperately tried to stabilise the condition of a number of critically injured people at the scene.

However, two others were pronounced dead immediately.

Two others died before they could be transferred to University Hospital Waterford (UHW).

The road is now closed and diversions are in place as gardai examine the scene.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s and his helper, a man in his 30s, were physically uninjured in the collision but both were badly shaken and were treated for shock at the scene.

Gardaí stressed that the section of road involved is expected to remain closed for some time.
